When people think about detectives, they often assume we operate above the law and can access any data. This is not true. We frequently receive calls in our office asking for services like phone hacking, accessing social media accounts, or even pinging someone’s phone location.
Here at Private Detective Sheffield, we cannot do any of the above this is highly illegal. If you are caught doing something like this you can be imprisoned. We’ve also seen an increase in individuals reporting that other investigators claim they can provide those services. If someone tells you they can offer those services, it’s best to stay away.
If you want to conduct phone forensics to retrieve deleted data from a handset, the only legal way to do so is with the third party’s consent. This requires both full written consent and verbal confirmation that they are happy for their phone to be analysed.
